Default A bunch of little things

I was thinking that it's difficult to create a brand new class that doesn't overlap a whole lot with what we already have. I was thinking guns would be fun. That's what they've introduced with Fable II. I dunno, maybe they wouldn't be fun. But I can't support a new class that isn't distinctly different from all of the others.

Something I thought would be cool but without affecting the entire party at once is impossible is the ability to slow down time. I loved being able to slow time for a short while with that one orb in Grandia III or in Fable. It'd be a spell like an avatar, but with even more restrictions. Then there could be monumentally more difficult boss battles due to the possibility that one could get so many hits in. My boyfriend says it'll never happen in an MMO, though, so I dunno...

You could have a character that does all of its damage with strings, piano wire style.

And what about a new type of primary attribute? Maybe an increased percentage chance to hit to combat peoples' abilities to dodge attacks? Or a character that literally runs faster all of the time based on their primary attribute, like 1% faster for every 2 points into it (max just however high you could get it with runes and mods). Then there would be enemies that ran faster and we'd be more challenged when we had to slow them down.

You could have a master of light (moving prisms around or something) and sound (like high pitched stuff dogs freak out over). You could also have a rogue type character, maybe.

And this is off-topic I think to my thread, but I'd like a lot more oppurtunities to be evil. And have alignment, perhaps. I'm such a sucker for Kotor and Fable, so that stuff is the love of my life.

Any thoughts?

In a observation I made befoe, I suggest that a new class be consider on the bases of 3 elements:
Functionality, Playing-Mechanic/style, and Appeal (catchy looks).
A new
class need to be unique in atleast one of those 3 areas to be consider good (or atleast in my book)

So I would suggest those be the things to consider when thinking about a new class.

-gun: been debated to almost flaming level. See the popular engineer CC for a idea about it.

-time mage: I personally love it, and want to write one for it, but never got to it... and there were few good Chorno mage type of CC out there already, could take a look there.

-String: Ken Dei made one.

-Dodge attack attribute: seem a few of those in a MA (Martial Art) type of CC

-master of light: seem interesting and potential.

-Evil girl are bitchy

There are quite a few original abilities which can be added to the game, all you need is to check every single one of my ideas and other topics I have a hand in to get a revelation in opportunity. As I always say, lack of creativity and perspective do not measure opportunity.

Here are a few links to read up on.
Stalker (also known as vampire).

Samurai.

Dragon (yeah Dragon).

Also you can read my contribution to the ideas of others.

Summoner.

Gargon.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10077227

And lastly, why guns are unreal in feudal combat.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10075814

GW is renown for its realistic gameplay, things like dealing damage with your guitar and piano (who in the hell is bringing a piano onto the battle field even if it does do damage) are totaly unrealistic, just as unrealistic as pretending the addition of guns doesn't totaly reorganize the scheme of combat. In case you haven't noticed, the Paragon is a parrellel of a Warrior priest who uses Chants and Echos instead of Songs to boost his allies in combat. That is about as musical as combat should get. Super sonic blast Saxiphones are totally fake, and if you wern't so wrapped up into whatever fantasy or anime that had such hainously ridiculous objects as weapons, you would step back and think, WTF there is no way a guitar or harp does attack damage. Try it, see what happens, you might impare someones hearing at best.

So, when we are coming up with class ideas, my guideline is first to come up with an outstanding identity which attracts players new and old to the next chapter, something that people certainly want and enjoy. Original identity means nothing if it is just original and ridiculously pathetic and unrealisitic. And secondly, original skills, which give the class a unique function and purpose. It is the skills which add something new to the game, whether it is the primary or secondary class.

But, in the case that you truely desire something radically original and amazing, read the Dragon concept, it really doesn't get any more radical than that without being unreal, and yes, guns are less reasonable than dragons, so remember that when your assuming that something that is already in the game and totaly attractive isn't appropriate.
